Introduction
Hi there. This is Dr. Chou here. Thanks for reading my newest article on medical marijuana.
So one of the very first questions I get asked by potential patients is “Will medical marijuana help me?”
It’s an understandable question because it’s a large commitment of both time and money to pursue treatment with medical marijuana.
Obviously it’s impossible to know who will benefit from medical marijuana until you try it, but I have found that there are certain characteristics that determine who is likely to benefit and who may not.
Patients who benefit the most from medical marijuana
I have found from doing over 200 consultations that the following patients are more likely to benefit from medical marijuana
- Taking traditional medical treatments but is seeing minimal or no benefit from them
- Benefiting from traditional medications but are looking for another treatment option or a supplement to their current treatments
- Have previously tried medical marijuana and received benefits from its use
- Have the time and finances to persue medical marijuana treatment on a consistent basis
- Understand the limitations and uncertainties surrounding medical marijuana
- Have medical conditions that have good evidence of effect from medical marijuana
- Lack of co-morbidities which make medical marijuana treatment difficult or impossible
Unfortunately there is no way to determine how someone will react to medical marijuana until you try it, but I have found that patients with the above characteristics tend to be the ones who benefit most from medical marijuana.
