Intro
This is Dr. Chou here. I here a lot of myths about CBD so I wanted to give you the truth about CBD today.
Myth – CBD is not as good as THC
Because CBD does not typically cause any psychoactive or outwardly visible effect, many people feel that CBD is not as good than THC.
The truth is that CBD has different effects than THC. That doesn’t mean that one is necessarily better than the other. They just do different things and so your doctor needs to know when to recommend one or the other, or maybe a combination of the two.
Myth – I don’t feel the CBD so it’s not helping me
I explain to my patients that CBD has an gradual effect. Unlike THC where the effects are dramatic and can be felt immediately, CBD has a more gradual effect.
You’ll likely not feel an immediate change from using CBD, but patients that keep a symptom journal and keep track of their symptoms month to month often notice a good effect after using CBD for a period of time.
Myth – CBD from marijuana is better than CBD from hemp
This myth is truth to a certain extent. If you’re looking for a full spectrum product that also has terpenes and minor cannabinoids and THC, then a full spectrum CBD from marijuana is the only way you’ll get that combination of benefits.
However, if you’re looking for a single isolate CBD product with no THC in it, then CBD from hemp is chemically indistinguishable from CBD from marijuana and has the same effect.
Myth – CBD can only be obtained from a dispensary
You can actually get high quality single isolate CBD produced from hemp with no THC from many producers. Generally the only time you will need to get CBD from a dispensary is if you’re desiring a product processed from marijuana containing some THC.
However, keep in mind that 90% of the products that are out there are pretty much junk. If you want to learn more about what to look for in a high quality medical marijuana product, please read our Know Your Product Details article.
